Chocolate cost is Rs.1 and if we return 3 wrappers (covers) of chocolate we get 1 more chocolate. If you have Rs.15 how many chocolates do you get ?

I have Rs.15 = 15 Chocolates + 15 wrappers(covers)
Give 15 wrappers = we will get 5 chocolates + 5 wrappers
Give only 3 wrappers = we will get 1 chocolate + 1 wrapper
Give remaining 2 wrappers along with new 1 wrapper = we will get 1 more chocolate
so total = 15 + 5 + 1 + 1= 22

A group of friends goes for dinner and gets bill of Rs 2400. Two of them says that they have forgotten their purse so remaining make an extra contribution of Rs 100 to pay up the bill. Tell the no. of person in that group ?

Let ‘x’ be the number of perons in the group and let ‘y’ be amount per head which they have to pay.
Then xy = 2400.
or y = 2400/x
Since two friends have forget the purse, x-2 persons should share the total amount(2400).

If they share, they have to make an extra contribution of Rs 100 to pay up the bill That is x-2 persons should pay y+100 each
or (x-2)(y+100) = 2400
or y+100 = 2400/(x-2)
or y = 2400/(x-2) – 100

Therefore we have got two equations namely,
y= 2400/x and
y = 2400/(x-2) – 100

Comparing these two, we get
2400/x = 2400/(x-2) – 100

Solving this we get
x^2 – 2x -48 = 0
or (x-8) (x+6) = 0
or x = 8 or x = -6

Since ‘x’ denote the number of persons, it should be positive.
So, x = 8.

What is the minimum number of races required to pick the best three horses from 25 horses if each race has maximum of 5 horses ?

We will only need 7 races to get the best three out of 25.

Let us Name horses as H1, H2, H3…H25.

Now,

Race 1 – H1 – H5
Race 2 – H6 – H10
Race 3 – H11 – H15
Race 4 – H16 – H20
Race 5 – H21 – H21

Let us now assume

First Rank of Race 1 – W11
Second Rank of Race 1 – W12

First Rank of Race 2 – W21

Third Rank of Race 2 – W23

Fifth Rank Of Race 5 – W55

Race 6 – W11 , W21 , W31, W41, W51 ( toppers from first five races)

Race 7 – 2nd from Race 6, 3rd from Race 6, X, Y , Z where
