  • DNS- Domain Name Server.
  • In 1983 Domain Name Server was introduced by Paul Mockapetris and Jon Postell.
  • Through internet it is a naming system for all the resources which includes physical nodes and applications.
  • It is used to locate the resource through network easily.
  • Domain Name Serveris an internet which maps the domain names to their associated IP addresses.
  • Without Domain Name Server, users must know the IP address of the web page that you wanted to access.
  • If we want to visit particular website, then the user will type the website into the address bar of the web browser.
  • Once the domain name is entered, then the domain system will translate the domain name into the IP address which can be easily interpreted by the computer.
  • The computer can locate the web page requested by the user, by using the IP address.
  • In Domain Name Server there are four servers work with each other to get the correct IP address to the client.
  • They are DNS recursor, Root nameservers, TLD nameservers, Authoritative nameservers.
  • DNS recursor also known as DNS resolver which receives the query from the DNS client and communicates with other DNS servers to find the right IP address.
  • Root nameservers answers requests by sending back a list of the authoritative nameservers that go with the correct Top-level Domain.
  • Top-level Domain nameserver keeps the IP address of the second-level domain contained within the TLD name then it releases the website’s IP address and sends the query to the domain’s nameserver.
  • Authoritative nameserver gives you the real answer to your Domain Name Server query.
