There are a ton of reasons why you might need to share your Mac’s web association over WiFi, or Ethernet. You might remain in a lodging that exclusive permits one device to connect with their internet, or you may just need it to test something out. Whatever it may be, if you\u2019re looking to share your Mac\u2019s internet.<\/p>\n[ad type=”banner”]\n

1. Share WiFi from Your Mac over Ethernet<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

If you have a WiFi connection on your Mac, and you need to share it over\u00a0the Ethernet interface with another laptop.It can be do that easily.<\/p>\n

  • First, launch System Preferences<\/strong> on your Mac, and go to \u201cSharing<\/strong>\u201c.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Here, click on \u201cInternet Sharing<\/strong>\u201c. Ensure you don\u2019t check the checkbox next to it.<\/li>\n
    • Then, select \u201cWiFi<\/strong>\u201d from the dropdown menu that says \u201cShare your connection from<\/strong>\u201c, and check the checkbox next to \u201cEthernet<\/strong>\u201c, under \u201cTo computers using<\/strong>\u201c.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Now, check the checkbox next to \u201cInternet Sharing<\/strong>\u201c, and click on \u201cStart<\/strong>\u201c, in the dialog box that appears.<\/p>\n

      Now you can plug an Ethernet cable into your Mac, and the laptop that you want to share your connection with, and it\u2019ll simply work.<\/p>\n

      2. Share Ethernet Connection from your Mac over WiFi<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

      It will be more useful, if you can connect your Mac to Ethernet, and then share that connection over WiFi. Well, opportunely, you can do that easily, as well. The process is similar to sharing your WiFi over Ethernet<\/strong>; however, in the second step<\/strong>, you will have to select \u201cEthernet<\/strong>\u201d in the drop down menu that says \u201cShare your connection from\u201d, and check the checkbox next to \u201cWiFi\u201d, under \u201cTo computers using\u201d.<\/p>\n

      Your Mac will now begin sharing your Ethernet connection over WiFi, and you can simply join the network on any device that has WiFi support. If you want to protect your WiFi network, you can simply click on the \u201cWi-Fi Options<\/strong>\u201d button, in Internet Sharing, and set up a password.<\/p>\n

      3. Share your iPhone\u2019s\u00a0Connection over Ethernet<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

      Share the Personal Hotspot on your iPhone, over Ethernet<\/strong>, using your Mac. This is also very simple, and the steps are\u00a0much the same as the previous ones, but for the sake of clarity. You can share your iPhone\u2019s Personal Hotspot with your Mac using three different ways.<\/em><\/p>\n

        \n
      • You can connect to it using Bluetooth,<\/em><\/li>\n
      • You can connect to it using the iPhone\u2019s USB cable,<\/em><\/li>\n
      • You can simply share it using WiFi.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        \u00a0This particular section is useful for sharing\u00a0your iPhone\u2019s internet to other devices that do not support WiFi\u2026 like an old\u00a0desktop PC. You can use this to share your iPhone\u2019s connection to a router, and connect multiple devices\u00a0with the router using Ethernet cables.<\/em><\/p>\n

        Share iPhone\u2019s Personal Hotspot through\u00a0Bluetooth<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

        If you need to\u00a0share your iPhone\u2019s Personal Hotspot to your Mac using Bluetooth, and then share that over the Ethernet.<\/p>\n

        First, on your iPhone, turn\u00a0off WiFi<\/strong>, and\u00a0turn on \u201cPersonal Hotspot\u201d<\/strong>. It will request you whether you want to turn WiFi on, or just share the connection over Bluetooth and USB. Tap on \u201cBluetooth and USB Only<\/strong>\u201c. Ensure\u00a0that Bluetooth is turned on, on your iPhone.<\/p>\n

        Next, on your Mac, go to\u00a0System Preferences<\/strong>, and click on \u201cBluetooth<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n

        If you need to share your\u00a0iPhone\u2019s Personal Hotspot\u00a0to your Mac using a USB Cable, and share that connection over the Ethernet.<\/p>\n

        Another way you can connect your\u00a0iPhone\u2019s Personal Hotspot to your Mac, is\u00a0through WiFi.Now\u00a0 you can share this connection to other non-WiFi enabled devices, by sharing\u00a0it over the Ethernet.<\/p>\n

        On your iPhone, enable Personal Hotspot, and tap on \u201cTurn on WiFi<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n
