Chromebooks recently got the potential to run Android apps thru its new developer channel release and that has opened the gates to new capability for Chrome OS devices. Essentially, you could now use your favorite apps like WhatsApp on your Chromebook. There\u2019s a catch though. The Play Store considers the Chromebook as an Android 6.0 tablet; thus, you can only install apps that are compatible with tablets and as we know, WhatsApp isn\u2019t available for tablets.<\/p>\n

However, you can install and use WhatsApp on Chromebook through an alternate method. Here\u2019s how to do it:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. Firstly, you will have to install WhatsApp on your Chromebook. Since it\u2019s not available from the Play Store, you can download the app\u2019s APK from WhatsApp\u2019s official webpage. Once downloaded, check our post on how to install APK files on Chromebook to install WhatsApp.<\/li>\n
  2. Once WhatsApp is installed on the Chromebook, open it and tap on \u201cAgree and Continue\u201d<\/strong> in its welcome page. After which, you should get a message saying \u201cNote:<\/strong> tablets are currently not supported\u201d. Click on \u201cOk \u201c.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Then, WhatsApp will prompt you for permissions. Click on \u201cContinue\u201d and grant the permissions.\u00a0Once done, enter yourmobile number<\/strong>\u00a0along with your\u00a0country code<\/strong>\u00a0and move ahead. Select \u201cOk\u201d when WhatsApp prompts you to confirm the number.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. WhatsApp will then try to detect an SMS sent to your number but it obviously won\u2019t be able to. So, check your phone andenter the code manually,\u00a0<\/strong>sent via SMS from WhatsApp.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        1. After the code is verified, your WhatsApp account should start up with the usual set up.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Well, that\u2019s it and you can start using WhatsApp. You can send messages, send media and even make calls with ease. In fact, we were surprised to see that WhatsApp works like a charm om the Chromebook, as you even\u00a0get push notifications when the app isn\u2019t open.<\/p>\n
