Apple announced 3D Touch, a new pressure-sensitive display with the iPhone 6s that allows users to engage with the show in amazingly new approaches. Apple may additionally have touted 3D contact because the iPhone 6s\u2019 headline function, but the use of a jailbreak tweak we can get this 3-D contact functionality on older versions of iPhone inclusive of the 6, 6 Plus and the iPhone 5s.<\/p>\n[ad type=”banner”]\n

How to Get 3D Touch on older iPhones<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Note<\/strong>: We\u2019ll be using a Jailbreak tweak \u201cPeek-a-boo\u201d from a custom Source. There are several substitutes available in Cydia, but we will use it because it\u2019s the only one compatible with the latest iOS 10.2 Jailbreak as of writing.<\/p>\n

  • Open\u00a0Cydia<\/strong>, switch to the\u00a0\u201cSources\u201d<\/strong>tab, and tap \u201cEdit<\/strong>\u201d > \u201cAdd<\/strong>\u201c.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Enter \u201chttp:\/\/repo.ioscreatix.com<\/strong>\u201d (without quotes) in the dialogue box that appears and tap on \u201cAdd Source<\/strong>\u201c.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • Now that we\u2019ve successfully added the source, open Cydia again and click on the \u201cSearch<\/strong>\u201d tab. Search for \u201cPeek-a-Boo<\/strong>\u201d and install this Jailbreak tweak.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[ad type=”banner”]\n

        The Springboard will respiring after a while and voila, you can 3D Touch on your older iPhone! While you can start 3D Touching, It\u2019d be better if you take a time to configure \u201cPeek-a-boo\u201d so that it can work with great accuracy.<\/p>\n

        Configure Peek-a-boo Settings<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

        Navigate to System \u201cSettings<\/strong>\u201d > \u201cPeek-a-boo<\/strong>\u201d and set the Sensitivity\u00a0slider to your desired number.<\/p>\n

        The more the sensitivity, the more the amount of finger touching required to trigger 3D Touch actions. From my experience, Peek-a-boo works best when sensitivity is set to 80-110. Of course, you may need to tweak around and experiment a bit according to your finger size and preference.<\/p>\n

        Peek and Pop is activated by a hard and an even harder press respectively on the iPhone 6s. Because you don\u2019t have a pressure sensitive hardware display on older iPhones, activating Peek will need you a\u00a0certain amount of finger touching<\/strong>\u00a0on the display (which can be adjusted in sensitivity in Settings.) Increasing the amount of finger touching a little more will simulate the Pop action.<\/p>\n

        Where Peek-a-boo Works (and Where it Doesn\u2019t)<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

        Peek-a-boo repeats the 3D Touch features on older iPhones surprisingly well. For begginers, you can\u00a03D Touch the icons on your home screen<\/strong>\u00a0and jump to quick actions supported by any app.<\/p>\n

        Peek-a-boo also\u00a0works on the Control centre<\/strong>\u00a0so you can 3D Touch the flashlight icon to control the intensity of the flashlight, just like the original 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s.]\n

        It works in\u00a0Apple\u2019s default apps<\/strong>\u00a0like Photos to quickly Peek and Pop into your pictures.<\/p>\n

        You can also quickly review links in Safari, App Store or the Mail app.\u00a0Third party apps<\/strong>\u00a0with 3D Touch support like Twitter or Instagram work like a charm.<\/p>\n

        You can 3D Touch in the\u00a0Notifications centre<\/strong>\u00a0to quick reply or even get the \u201cClear all notifications<\/strong>\u201d button\u2014 a luxury only iPhone 6s and later models enjoy.<\/p>\n

        There are some locations in which Peek-a-boo doesn\u2019t appear to work, although. To begin with, 3D touching to animate a live wallpaper doesn\u2019t appear to work. Subsequent up, 3D Touching Apple\u2019s keyboard doesn\u2019t turn it right into a cursor trackpad.
