When Google switched up the Overview screen in Android P, they introduced a replacement\u00a0<\/span>feature called \u201cSmart Selection.\u201d Basically, switching the Pixel Launcher Overview to horizontal scrolling cards with high-resolution previews allowed OCR (optical character recognition)\u00a0to figure\u00a0<\/span>on them.\u00a0you’ll\u00a0<\/span>literally select text\u00a0and pictures\u00a0<\/span>from\u00a0what’s\u00a0<\/span>essentially a screenshot of the last state of the app. Unfortunately, Google limited this feature to the Pixel 2 and newer Pixel devices.<\/p>\n

Of course, these limitations are easily broken if you\u2019re willing\u00a0to try to to\u00a0<\/span>a touch\u00a0<\/span>modding.\u00a0you’ll\u00a0<\/span>get text and image selection\u00a0performing on\u00a0<\/span>the Pixel Launcher Overview screen on any rooted Android 10 device with the QuickSwitch Magisk Module and\u00a0a couple of\u00a0<\/span>other tricks.\u00a0because of\u00a0<\/span>XDA Senior Member remewer, if you\u00a0have already got\u00a0<\/span>a rooted ARM64 Android 10 device with Magisk<\/p>\n

Note: Installing Device Personalization Services may not work on your device and may result in a bootloop.Your mileage may vary. If this happens, you can remove the module in \/data\/adb\/modules.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Install the Pixel Launcher APK (found here) but don’t set it as your default launcher.<\/li>\n
  2. Open the Magisk Manager and look for the QuickSwitch module, created by the Lawnchair team.<\/li>\n
  3. Install the module and reboot your phone.<\/li>\n
  4. Open QuickSwitch and choose Pixel Launcher because the Recents provider. Reboot your phone.<\/li>\n
  5. Set Pixel Launcher as your default launcher.<\/li>\n
  6. Install the Device Personalization Services Magisk module found here, created by XDA Senior Member paphonb and modified by us. Reboot your phone.<\/li>\n
  7. Open the Pixel Launcher settings and choose Suggestions and enable both options.<\/li>\n
  8. That\u2019s it!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
