Especially Microsoft.\u00a0The software monster tried really hard to get Internet Explorer back in the game but that gets some negatives. So Microsoft return back to battle again with their new Microsoft Edge browser for Windows 10.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft provides a wonderful experience with Microsoft Edge and you know that\u2019s pretty true if you are an edge user. It\u2019s quite clear if you are\u00a0skeptical of using Edge due to your bad experiences with Internet Explorer but you should absolutely give Microsoft\u2019s new browser a try.<\/p>\n[ad type=&#8221;square&#8221;]\n<p>Most of the people across the globe using Google Chrome as default browser but off late people have\u00a0started to face some issues, especially on PCs that feature modest hardware. There have also been privacy concerns around the browser. Thanks to these reasons, people are\u00a0looking for an alternative\u00a0that matches Chrome\u2019s simplicity and speed.\u00a0This is where Microsoft Edge comes into play. We are carrying out these tests on a fresh install of Google Chrome (v 45.0.2454.101 m) and Microsoft Edge (v 20.10240.16384) on Windows 10.<\/li>\n<li>Just so you should know, we cleared the cache after every test on both the browsers.<\/li>\n<li>We have taken\u00a0an average out of 3 scores from the Benchmark tests for better accuracy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 id=\"1-real-world-usage-comparison\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>1. Real World Usage Comparison<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 id=\"start-up-time\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Start-up Time<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The time browsers took to start.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong>: 1.13 seconds<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Chrome<\/strong>: 1.53 seconds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Verdict:<\/strong>\u00a0Microsoft Edge was slightly quicker to\u00a0load but we are pretty sure you won\u2019t notice the difference.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>Page Rendering Time<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We loaded\u00a0Wikitechy on both the browsers and noted the time.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong>: 2.57\u00a0seconds<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Chrome<\/strong>: 2.63\u00a0seconds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also tested the page rendering speed by loading Techcrunch.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong>: 4.21 seconds<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Chrome<\/strong>:\u00a03.58 seconds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then, we\u00a0loaded\u00a0the heavy USA Today website.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong>: 5.87 seconds<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Chrome<\/strong>:\u00a04.33 seconds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Verdict:<\/strong>\u00a0Google Chrome wins here\u00a0by a very slight margin.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"memory-usage\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Memory Usage<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>We\u00a0opened 8 tabs (Wikitechy, Gmail, Windows Blog, Official Android Blog, MSN, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter) on both the browsers and took note of the amount of memory they consumed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong>: 1018 MB<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Chrome<\/strong>: 516 MB<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[ad type=&#8221;banner&#8221;]\n<p><strong>Verdict:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Google Chrome has always been known to be a memory hog but it surprisingly did better than Microsoft Edge, which took a lot of memory.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"2-benchmark-comparison\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>2. The vast platform support means your data can be synced on multiple devices.<\/p>\n[ad type=&#8221;banner&#8221;]\n<h4 id=\"web-standards\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Web Standards<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4 id=\"google-chrome-2\"><strong>Google Chrome<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The latest Google Chrome version comes with support for new web standards like WebP (new web image format). Chrome\u00a0was also one of the first web browsers to support HTML5 and\u00a0Google is still a key contributor to the web standard. Google is also a founding member of W3C Web Performance Working group, so Chrome will\u00a0always be up to date\u00a0with the latest web standards.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4 id=\"microsoft-edge-2\"><strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Microsoft\u00a0has apparently worked really hard to meet modern web standards with Edge, even though the browser features a forked version of \u201cTrident\u201d(IE\u2019s rendering engine) called Microsoft EdgeHTML. Edge\u2019s layout engine has been build to support modern web standards like Shell Helper API, custom download managers and more. That also means no more support for legacy web standards like Active X, DirectX \u00a0Filters, Silverlight etc. While Edge does come with support for all major web standards, they still need improvements as benchmark scores suggest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4 id=\"verdict-3\"><strong>Verdict<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Google Chrome\u00a0wins here and it\u2019s no surprise, considering Edge is new and it should take some time before it can compete with Google Chrome on the web standards front.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"4-privacy-and-security\"><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>4. There are\u00a0security features like\u00a0<u>Sandboxing<\/u>, which prevents malicious code from a website along with securing plugins. Chrome also comes with a \u201c<u>Safe Browsing<\/u>\u201d technology, which shows you a warning if it thinks the website\u00a0may contain malware or phishing.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to privacy, Google Chrome gives you various features like\u00a0<u>Do not track<\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0<u>Incognito mode<\/u>, which lets you browse websites without it appearing in Chrome\u2019s history or record. Chrome also lets you customise your privacy features in the Settings for various websites. You can change your privacy preferences for suggestions in Omnibox, cookies, images and more.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4 id=\"microsoft-edge-3\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Internet Explorer was panned over the years for\u00a0being not-so-secure and Microsoft has apparently learned its lesson. Microsoft Edge features a host of modern technologies, which makes it one of the most secure browsers. There\u2019s support for\u00a0<u>SmartScreen<\/u>, which Microsoft introduced a few years back. SmartScreen performs a check on questionable websites to prevent them from downloading malicious content to your device. Microsoft\u2019s \u201c<u>Certificate Reputation<\/u>\u201d is also part of Edge and it detects fake websites. The browser also comes with sandboxing or as Microsoft likes to call it \u201c<u>Protected Mode<\/u>\u201c. Along with that, Edge also brings security\u00a0against memory corruption and other security vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p>On the privacy front, Microsoft Edge comes with support for\u00a0<u>InPrivate tabs<\/u>, which is the same as Incognito mode. The interface is clean with the top\u00a0region only featuring the address\/search bar along with back, forward and refresh options. You can have a bookmarks bar below or you can choose to hide it. Chrome also\u00a0packs in several options in the right click menu which Edge lacks.<\/p>\n<p>We surely love the Chrome\u2019s\u00a0ease of use, as it lets you concentrate on your web experience rather than shoving features to your face. The user experience is great, thanks to the minimalist design and smooth operation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4 id=\"microsoft-edge-4\"><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Internet Explorer was an outdated browser with a cluttered user experience but Microsoft Edge is nothing like it. Microsoft Edge brings a modern looking, fast web experience that makes IE look like a fossil. Edge does resemble a\u00a0bit to Chrome, with streamlined address\/search bar. Chrome has a number of options, which make it a fan favourite. There are various web apps,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/beebom.com\/2015\/07\/best-google-chrome-extensions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plugins and extensions<\/a>\u00a0that increase the browser\u2019s functionality several folds. The browser comes with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/beebom.com\/2014\/03\/google-chrome-tab-manager-extensions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">great tab management<\/a>, built-in PDF viewer and more. Microsoft Edge comes with some\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/beebom.com\/2015\/09\/microsoft-edge-tips-and-tricks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">really cool features<\/a>\u00a0like integration with Cortana that works really well. Then there\u2019s a new Reading mode, Reading list, ability to doodle directly on the web page and more. There\u2019s also a cool new\u00a0<em>Hub<\/em>, which features\u00a0your downloads, history and reading list. Along with that, Edge features a\u00a0cool sharing panel for quick sharing of links. There are some Windows 10-centric features like the ability to pin web pages to the Start menu. The feature list on Edge\u00a0is already pretty good but\u00a0it should get better with next update.
