  • In the previous chapter, discussion was about the basic steps to install node.js in various operating systems. Now its time for verification of node installed in the machine.

Checking Environmental variables for Node.js :

  • Go to My Computer -> right click and select Properties -> click advanced system settings -> Environmental variables as shown below:

  • 2.Under System Variables double click on Path variable to see the default configuration path of nodejs.

Node.js Installation Check:

  • Open an editor and create a file named InstallationCheck.js and write the below code in it:
console.log("Hi WikiTechy Guys! Welcome to nodejs!")
  • Save the code. (I’ve put the file in the path D:\wikiTechy\7.node.js\node.js-installation-checks\InstallationCheck.js)
  • Go to command prompt and type the command
node [filename with path]
  • Output should be the data entered in the file.

REPL Check :

  • Check out whether our REPL window is working
  • Click windows button -> select start and search for node.js window to initiate REPL console.
  • Now type the below commands
var x=5
       var y=5
  • You will get the output as 10. This indicates that node.js is working fine from REPL window.

  • 1. Undefined in the above window is returned by console.log method.
  • 2. It doesn’t have any impact and it’s not an error.
  • 3. By definition, console.log returns undefined and also logs arguments to console.

To get the version of node installed :

  • Type the below command in command prompt. In my case, I’ve installed v4.4.3 which is the latest version.
  • node --version
 nodejs version installed
