SWEDEN VISA

  • Famous as the land of the Vikings and the home of the two great Bergman’s of cinema – Ingrid and Ingmar, the Volvo and also of ABBA, Sweden is unique in that it’s long and interesting history has had little outside influences on it. Like Switzerland, it has maintained both its sovereignty and neutrality through the ages.

TYPES OF VISA

Short term visa

  • If you are planning a short visit to the Sweden and you do not have Sweden nationality, you may need to apply for a Schengen visa. The Sweden is one of the 26 European countries forming the Schengen Area which have no border controls between them. These countries also issue a common visa, the Schengen visa.

Processing Time:

  • Processing of visa application through VFS will be given priority by the Embassy and the processing time is usually 10 to 12 calendar days from the day the application was submitted to VFS in New Delhi. Please note that applications submitted to other VFS-offices than New Delhi will take another two days due to postal delivery.
  • Applicants can instantly track the status of their application by clicking on Track your Application or by sending a SMS to VISA SE passport number to 57333. There will be no need to follow up with the Embassy or the Call Centre to ascertain when the passport will be returned.

HOW TO APPLY

Visa Application Process

  • The Embassy of Sweden is pleased to announce the opening of their Visa Application Centre operated by VFS Global Services Private Limited in New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Ahmedabad This site provides information on procedures applicable to all country nationals who wish to apply for a Visa to travel to Sweden.
  • The visa applications are to be submitted at the Swedish Visa Application Centre at New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata and Ahmedabad in accordance with the Jurisdiction specified. All applications will be assessed by The Embassy of Sweden, located in New Delhi.
  • The VAC shall receive visa applications from residents of the Indian Union and any other country nationals.

Submission of visa application can be done only by the following:

Applicant

  • All applicants wishing to submit the application directly to the Embassy will still be required to apply in person.

Collection of passport

  • The Embassy of Sweden has implemented a change in arrangement for the collection of passport(s) from VFS Visa Application Centre. With effect from 02 November 2015, third party collection of the documents or passports will not be permitted, except in the following cases:
    • Immediate Family Member (i.e. Parents, Children, Siblings)
    • One member of a group collecting for the entire group
    • A person collecting on behalf of Govt. officials if authorized on the Govt. letter head or department
    • Representative of a company - Authorization letter on the letter head of the company and the official ID card
    • If any of the above, comes for passport collection they need to carry the following documents
    • Photocopy of Govt. ID card
    • Original ICR
    • Authorization Letter from applicant
  • Applicants who do not wish to collect their documents in person and whose documents cannot be collected by one of the above should pay a compulsory courier charge (INR 300/-) at the time of submission.
  • The applicants are requested to mention the complete delivery address on the covering letter. In case no specific address is mentioned on the covering letter, the passport will be sent to the address mentioned on the Visa Application Form.
  • This procedural change is to ensure the safe and secure return of documents to applicants.

Validity of passports

  • The applicant shall present a valid travel document (passport) the validity of which extends at least three months beyond the intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States (or, in the case of several visits, after the last intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States). It shall contain at least two blank pages and shall have been issued within the previous 10 years.
  • Please note that as per information received from the Indian Authorities, handwritten and not machine readable passports are no longer issued and manual changes in Indian passports are no longer permitted since 1 April 2010. The Embassy of Sweden thus does not accept:
    • Handwritten or not machine readable Indian passports issued after 01 April 2010;
    • Indian passports that contain a manual entry (observation) made after 01 April 2010 where the biographical data (including name place and date of birth and sex) of the passport holder were changed.

VISA FEES

  • Visa Fees applicable with effect from 15 February 2016 for Tourist, Relatives/Friend, Business and Conference visa are:

  • The above-mentioned Visa Fee is to be paid in Cash.

VFS Service charge:

  • Applicants applying at the Swedish Visa Application Centre shall be levied a service charge of Rs. 822/- (inclusive of service tax) payable in cash.
  • "The above-mentioned Visa Fee is to be paid in Cash along with a cash handling charge of Rs. 57/- levied per application"

Please Note:

  • The applicable visa fee in Indian Rupees is as per the current exchange rate. The same is subject to change without notice.
  • The Visa fee and service charges is non-refundable in case the visa is refused.
  • There is an optional courier facility available at Rs.300/- (Inclusive of Service Tax) per application / passport.

Note:

  • Children below the age of 6 years on the date of submission at VFS are exempted of the Visa Fee. However, VFS service charges will be applicable.

PASSPORT AND SWEDEN VISA

  1. Passport
    • All nationals except EU nationals holding a valid national ID card require passport valid for at least three months beyond length of stay. Some EU nationals may be required to present a valid passport in addition to a national ID card.
  2. Sweden Visa
    • Visa requirements depend upon the foreign individual’s citizenship and his or her intended length of stay in Sweden.

Sweden joined the Schengen Agreement

  • EU nationals staying longer than 90 days will need to register with the immigration department.
  • Nationals of Australia, Canada and the USA staying longer then 90 days will need to apply for a long-stay visa.
  • It is important to obtain in advance the correct visa that gives you the right to work in Sweden. Work permits and residence visas are easy to obtain if it can be demonstrated that the relevant skills and experience are in short supply within Sweden.
  • As a signatory of the Schengen Agreement, Sweden issues short-term Schengen visas, which are valid for stays lasting less than three months. Therefore, residence and work permits are no longer required for stays of less than three months.
