Latex Packages:

  • Packages are extensions of Latex that add functionality. One can think of the possibility to add figures or additional commands for mathematical symbols.
  • The Latex packages are contain two file types: class files with .cls extension, and style files with .sty extension.
  • The packages amsfonts, graphics, and makeidx are mentioned elsewhere during this book.
  • The command \usepackage, which can seem only within the preamble, tells LaTeX to load a package. options are enclosed in square braces.

\use package [options]{package name}
