Install PDI using Wizard

  • The wizard used to install PDI. PDI software install by wizard, the Tomcat web application server, and PostgreSQL, which is the default database that communities the DI Repository. The DI Repository holds audit, scheduling, and solution content data.
  • PDI Installation steps are same for the Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms.

The following steps are used to install the PDI software:

Step 1:

  • Make sure that logged into the computer then install PDI. To install software that allows while logged on with an account. On Windows, this is typically an account that has administrator privileges. On Linux, create an pentaho to log in.

Step 2:

  • Download the correct installation wizard’s file an operating system.

Step 3:

  • Using Linux, make sure that have the appropriate permission to execute the file. Open a Terminal window, navigate to the directory just download the file, then the prompt to type the following commands.
	chmod a+x ./pdi-6.0.0-x64.bin	

Step 4:

  • Launch the installation wizard.
    • PDI on Windows: Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the installation file download. To launch on double-click the pdi-6.0.1-x64.exe file.
    • PDI on Mac: pdi-6.0.1-x64.app.tar.gz archive, pdi-6.0.1-x64.app on double click the file to install will start.
    • PDI on Linux and computer can display graphics: In a windows to open a Terminal and navigate to the installation file download. In the prompt type this command, and press Enter.
	./pdi-6.0.0-x64.bin	

PDI on Linux and computer cannot display graphics: In a windows to open a Terminal and navigate to the installation file download. Enter one of these commands at the prompt, and press EnterIf GTK libraries on the system type this command and want to use the GTK Toolkit:

	./pdi-5.4.0-x64.bin --mode text	

If do not have GTK libraries on the system type this command or if we want to use OpenMotif instead:

	./pdi-6.0.0-x64.bin --mode xwindow	

Step 5:

  • The Pentaho Wizard splash screen appears, then the Welcome window. Click Next.

Step 6:

  • License agreement to read. Then continue, to select the license agreement to accept, then Next button to click.

Step 7:

  • When window appears the Installation Folder, do one of these things.

Note:

  • If you can’t install into a directory that already exists in this directory. If you try, you will get an error message.
  • May be using Linux, we don’t recommend that you install the software in the /opt/ directory.
  • The complicated permissions requirements and general isolation from the rest of the system can cause unplanned issues to arise if the software is installed there.

May be accept the directory we have following the below steps are,

Step 1:

  • Accept the default directory and click Next to continue.

Step 2:

  • While using a different directory by entering the path in the text box or click Browse to navigate to the place where want PDI to be installed. Then click Next button to continue.

Step 3:

  • When the PostgreSQL postgres user password window appears, type the password want to assign to the PostgreSQL database’s admin user. Wizard cannot access these type of characters in the password:
	'  "   &    <   >  /	

Step 4:

  • Next button click to continue. window appears for Ready to Install. Next button click to install the software.

Step 5:

  • Window appears the Generating Evaluation Licenses as evaluation licenses are installed. If they are not able to install, since the evaluation licenses were not installed in a window appears to shows.

Step 6:

  • Window appears the Installation in Progress. Make sure the software installs completely before moving on to the next step.

Note:

Due to an error occur DI sever port are not an available in the system. The ports are:(9092, 9080, 9443, and 5432). Find the other port to use they support to the wizard. Otherwise do not use or port are used in the prompt.

Step 7:

  • Window appears to show the Installation Complete. To view Spoon by to click the Open Pentaho Data Integration. Then to click Finish.

Step 8:

  • Launched spoon.

Step 9:

  • Trouble occur when to the installer, to check the documentation.

How to verify the Installation:

  • To verify the installation the following steps:

Step 1:

  • Open a file explorer window like Windows Explorer or a Command Prompt or Terminal windows.

Step 2:

  • Navigate to the directory where to installed PDI, then compare this directory structure

Step 3:

  • Open the installation-summary.txt file. Installed are listed plugins and design tools.

Step 4:

  • Directories and location of files to review:

Top-level files:

  • Top-level files /pentaho directory:
    • ctlscript.sh: The status of pentaho services are starts, stops, restarts, and shows. Available on Linux only.
    • installation-summary.txt: In the summary contains the information screen installation process to be end.
    • uninstall: Remove what are they install.
  • Specific programs of locations :
    • DI Server: /pentaho/server/data-integration-server/
    • Spoon: /pentaho/design-tools/data-integration/
    • License Installer: /pentaho/license-installer/
  • Logs of Location:
    • DI Server Logs: pentaho/server/data-integration-server/logs/
    • Tomcat Logs for DI Server: pentaho/server/data-integration-server/tomcat/logs/
  • JDBC drivers of location:
    • DI Server: pentaho/server/data-integration-server/tomcat/lib
    • Spoon: pentaho/design-tools/data-integration/lib/
  • Port Number are default:
    • 5434: PostgreSQL Server.
    • 9080: DI Server Port.
    • 9001: HSQL Server Port.
    • 9092: Embedded H2 Database.
    • 50000 or 50006: Monet Database Port.

How to Uninstall Pentaho:

  • Pentaho to be uninstall the following steps:

Step 1:

  • Pentaho directory to navigate, and run the uninstall file.

Step 2:

  • Wizard is launched to uninstall.

Step 3:

  • Delete data files are indicates in the prompted.

Step 4:

  • Then restart the computer.
